In 1987, the Life With Cancer program was founded at the Fairfax INOVA hospital by Nando Di Fillipo. Having lost his wife to cancer, he and his family struggled to find the support and resources they needed to cope with this ordeal. He became determined to provide others with an outlet to deal with cancer and contributed a generous donation to INOVA to start a program focused solely on this matter, which began Life With Cancer. For 25 years, Life With Cancer has served patients, survivors, and families and given life-changing support, resources, and education.
Life With Cancer’s Family Center, also known as the Dewberry House, is a comfortable home-style setting open to patients and their families. Including classrooms, private and group counseling rooms, art therapy studios, exercise rooms, a lounge, a reflection garden and kitchen, the Dewberry House is the only one of its kind in Northern Virginia.
